Happy March 1st! I always think that when March arrives, spring can't be far behind. Which is good...in fact, despite all the snow on the ground, it "smelled like spring" this morning. Birds were chirping, it was bright out early...winter is mostly behind us. Although I can't help thinking that I will miss it. I love sweaters, quilts, cozy fires, slow-cooked suppers. Well, it's not like it's 80 degrees out or anything, so I better quit my complaining already!
Anyway, since it's the first day of a new month, it's time for a new block in my coffee quilt. Here is March:
I like this one a lot...Fig Tree greens are soft and subtle. Do you love the floral on the upper right? That's from the latest line, Whimsy. I'm going to have to get some yardage of that one. I also adore the map fabric...some of you know that I used to be a cartographer, when I first got out of college. Maps are near and dear to my heart! The background fabric is from a Lakehouse fat quarter...I think it goes really well!
I had a little field trip to Joann's yesterday. I needed more DMC floss, and of course I had to peruse the fabrics while I was there. I got two yards of this:
How cute is that? I love novelty fabrics. Combining coffee and cats is irresistible! I'm thinking maybe the backing of my coffee quilt. But then I'll need more than two yards, come to think of it. Hmmm. Anyway then I got a yard of this as well:
I thought it would make a cute apron. Now I have at least three fabrics that I need to make aprons out of. I have a few sewing tutorials bookmarked...I just have to decide on which one. I wear aprons a lot...and they make great gifts too!
Last spring/summer, I painted our bedroom sage green. I've shown the color here. After doing so, I realized that the two nightstand lamps have to be repainted since they are a different shade of green that does not coordinate. Finally TODAY, I bought some black spray paint. How's that for procrastination? Anyway that is a project for this week. I've never spray-painted before, but I'm set to try. Then I'm thinking of recovering the lampshades since they're pretty blah. Any ideas on how to do that? Another online tutorial, perchance?
And now for my standard closing...off to do some laundry! Have a fabulous day!

Rachel (psiquilt) did a tute and I think it's also on the ModaBakeshop blog... covering a lampshade with honeybun strips (I think it was a honeybun). It's very cute. Go check it out!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen--love this month's coffee mug colors--nice job--and soooo fast!!!! I have managed to trace of a cat embroidery and get a center panel of applique pieces ready to do--and a load of laundry--and fix and run the cleaner and order this months Schnibbles!!!
ReplyDeleteAS for spray painting--just go easy and do light coats--let them dry--then do another light coat--that way you don't get "runs"!!!!
Let me know how you make out??
Hugs, Di
Love how that block turned out!! You're so right on top of that!
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt block! I do love the Whimsy fabric.
ReplyDeleteI love to go to JoAnn's ... your fabric will be adorable as an apron.
On your lamps ... just spray lightly, let dry and spray again. I have covered lampshades... I first made a pattern with brown craft paper.
Blessings,
Donna
